Basic Obedience Course

The Alexandria Dog Training Company basic obedience training course is for dogs and puppies at least five months of age. Your dog will learn to respond to you promptly and work around distractions such other dogs, people, traffic, and typical city/suburban environments.

Private lessons

Six one-hour lessons -- In-home training course covers walking on a loose lead at your side, sitting automatically when you stop, sit, down, come, down from a distance, extended sit-stay and down-stay, and out of sight stays. Each week reviews the prior week's work and adds in a new exercise to work on during the week. You will need to work with your dog daily to practice the lessons and reinforce what has been learned. Beginning in a quiet area, later training is done in more challenging environments so that your dog learns to behave in spite of distractions.

If you prefer to have your dog professionally trained, or if you have limited time to devote to daily training, please inquire about additional training options during your consultation.

Professional Training

Your dog will receive daily professional training sessions weekdays for two weeks and you will receive four, once a week handling lessons in order to ensure the dog's responsiveness to you. The Professional Training Course covers the same exercises that the Private Lesson course does: walk on a loose lead at your side, sit automatically when you stop, sit, down, come, down from a distance, extended six-stay and down-stay, and out of sight stays. The dog will be trained in various nearby locations such as a local shopping center or park near your home to help him learn to work around distractions.

PERSONALIZED TRAINING

Training is tailored to the individual dog and owner. During the initial consultation, the trainer will discuss with you any difficulties you may be having with your dog or any particular areas that you wish to work on. In addition, the consultation is critical to enabling the trainer to adjust training techniques to the individual dog and how that dog responds. Some dogs learn more quickly, some need more work around distractions, some need more reassurance than others. There's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to working with dogs!

The whole family is encouraged to participate in training and the trainer will work with all family members to learn how to communicate effectively with your dog.

Training is gentle, effective, and well-proven, offering reliable results. Your dog will learn to respond to commands promptly, control himself on leash, and exhibit general good canine manners.

The Alexandria Dog Training Company is committed to ensuring that you and your dog work together well and enjoy a good relationship for a lifetime.
